When I started out on my quest to find the best Glace Bay eatery for morning coffee and some writing time, I picked out the top 3 that I knew. They are Talo, Colette’s and Sweet Side of the Moon.
Right off the bat, Talo gets a 0 out of ten for my Buzz Quality report, strictly for the fact that they were not open in the morning. So that leaves the competition open for the other two on my list.
So let’s take a look at Colette’s, my first rendezvous. After a little maneuvering into the parking lot, I sat down to a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs, home fries and coffee. Best Home Fries I ever tasted I might add. There is a reason they were voted number 1 by the Cape Breton Post as Best Eatery. My interest however, was not on the food but the coffee.
The coffee reminded me of the stuff you perk at home, the old way before Keurig brewers. They offer free refills so that is a plus, so two refills later I was gone. The Buzz Quality report however was waning. The coffee left me with a little buzz but I still felt like taking a nap back at home. So I would rate this coffee as a 3 out of 10 because it was nothing to jump up and down about but at least they were open in the morning.
My next rendezvous was to check out Sweet Side of the Moon. Compared to Colette’s, this is a better place to sit with your morning coffee and do some writing. I like Sweet Side of the Moon’s quieter atmosphere. The upside to Colette’s is that you get to listen in on conversation which is also it’s downside.
The raisin biscuit I had to go with my coffee was to the moon and back deliciousness without the greasiness of Colette’s diner. The coffee however was not watered down like Colette’s but you could actually taste the full expression of the roast. Thought all you coffee aficionados would like that description of the coffee. So because Sweet Side of the Moon also offers free refills, better coffee, they are open and I don’t feel like taking a nap, I give them 10 out of ten on my Buzz Quality report.
