Every Spring is a new chance to wipe away the cob webs of our daily life and start again.
I was amazed this week by some information sent to me by Glen Brodie who did some research on the french connection to Glace Bay. Basically how Glace Bay received its name.
What he found was that Glace Bay originated in the 1700’s as a source of coal for Louisbourg. In the 60’s he found the “old corduroy road” which he says likely connected the two sites.
The location of “old corduroy road” he said is along the back of “Miss Jim’s Pond” in Mira Gut.
So there you have it! A French Mine in the Bay area mining coal in the 1700’s. Brings new meaning to the old Ice Bay doesn’t it?
